Brian McGeehon spent nearly eight years as Gatewood’s Chief Financial Officer. He now brings that same discipline to the firm’s clients — specifically, to the owners of closely held companies and the executives who run them, whose personal wealth is inseparable from the enterprise they have built.
Business transitions, liquidity events, equity compensation, tax and estate structuring across multiple entities: these are situations where the balance sheet and the family are the same conversation, and where a wrong assumption is expensive. Brian is brought into that work alongside the client’s advisory team, adding the perspective of someone who has actually sat in the operator’s chair.
He earned that perspective at Gatewood. Brian joined in 2008 as the firm’s second recruit, moving from intern to partner over the years. As CFO he built the financial architecture the firm runs on: budgeting and forecasting models, valuation and profitability analysis, compensation benchmarking, and the diligence behind the firm’s acquisitions.
That work now extends outward. Brian leads financial due diligence and deal structure on Gatewood’s acquisitions, chairs the firm’s Financial Oversight Committee, and serves as a standing advisor to the CEO. He is building a CFO consulting practice through Gatewood Tax & Accounting for business owners who need financial leadership their company cannot yet support full-time. He also mentors the firm’s advisors — second chair in complex client meetings, structured debriefs, and recurring case-review work — because the standard a firm holds is set by how well it develops the people who will hold it next.
Brian holds a Master of Accountancy from the University of Missouri–Columbia and a degree in Finance and Economics, cum laude, from Southeast Missouri State University. He is a CFA® charterholder and a CLU®, and maintains Series 6, 7, and 63 securities registrations with LPL Financial along with Life and Health insurance licenses.
Brian and his wife Ashley live in O’Fallon, Missouri with their four children — Ayla, Finn, Lucy, and Henrietta. The family follows Cardinals baseball, Blues hockey, and City SC soccer. Brian is a runner and triathlete and, when time allows, a golfer.
